How to Link a New Device With a QR Code

Add a tablet, laptop or second phone to your account in seconds by scanning a QR code — and why linking is the way to move end-to-end encrypted secret chats.

Typing passwords on a TV-sized laptop screen in a café isn't ideal. Linking with a QR code is faster and safer.

1. On the **new device**, open Yapie and choose **Link with phone** on the sign-in screen. A QR code and a short code appear. 2. On your **phone**, open **Settings › Devices & linking**. 3. Tap **Scan**, point the camera at the QR code (or type the short code). 4. Confirm. The new device signs in.

You'll get a notice in Saved Messages saying which device was linked and from where.

Why linking matters for secret chats

**Secret chats** are end-to-end encrypted: the keys exist only on your devices. Signing in with a password gives you your regular chats, but **linking** from a device that has the keys is how secret chats appear on the new one.

Managing devices

In **Settings › Devices** you can see every signed-in device with its name, location (from IP) and last activity, and **end any session**.

Safety tips

- **Only scan codes you created yourself.** Scammers sometimes send QR codes asking you to "verify" — scanning would link *their* device to *your* account. - If you see a device you don't recognise, end it and change your password. - Turn on **two-step verification** for extra protection.
