Frequently asked questions

What is Yapie?

Yapie is a free messenger that combines private chats, groups and channels, voice and video calls with screen sharing, a public Discover feed, a business workspace called Yapie Work, and a wallet for sending money — in one app.

Is Yapie free?

Yes. Messaging, calls, groups, channels and the basic Yapie Work plan are free. Optional extras such as Premium, verification badges and larger business plans are paid.

Which devices does Yapie work on?

Android (app), and iPhone, iPad, Windows, macOS, Linux and ChromeOS through the Yapie web app, which you can install from your browser so it opens like a normal app.

Do I need a phone number to sign up?

No. You can sign up with a username, an email address or a phone number. To message new people, create groups or use the wallet you verify either an email or a phone — one of them is enough.

Will I lose my chats if I lose my phone?

No. Regular chats are stored on the server, so you just sign in on the new phone. Yapie also keeps a compressed recovery vault, so support can restore chats you deleted by accident.

How do I recover a deleted chat?

Open Settings › Backup, import & export › Request a recovery, describe what you lost, and support restores it into your account as a "Recovered" chat.

Why am I not getting notifications on Android?

Turn on notifications in Settings › Notifications & sounds, then under Reliable delivery tap Allow to switch off battery optimisation for Yapie. Some phone brands pause background apps unless you do this.

What do the green ticks mean?

One grey tick means sent, two grey ticks mean delivered, and two green ticks mean read. If someone turns read receipts off, you'll only see delivered.

Can I edit a message after sending it?

Yes. Edited messages show "edited", and as the sender you can open the edit history, see every earlier version and restore any of them with one tap.

Are my messages end-to-end encrypted?

Secret chats are end-to-end encrypted and stay on your devices. Regular chats are stored on the server so they sync across devices and can be recovered.

Can I move my WhatsApp or Telegram chats to Yapie?

Yes. Export a chat from WhatsApp (as .txt) or Telegram Desktop (as JSON), then go to Settings › Backup, import & export and import it. Messages keep their original dates and authors.

How do I make a call?

Open the Calls tab and tap New call, pick one person or several, choose voice or video, and tap Call. You can also call from the top of any chat.

What is Yapie Work?

A workspace inside Yapie for companies: departments, geofenced attendance, meetings, documents, approval workflows with audit logs, and weekly or monthly reports with dashboards and PDF export.

How does the Yapie Wallet work?

Add credit online or at a Yapie agent, send it to anyone in a chat, and cash out through an agent. Every transfer needs your wallet PIN.

How do I protect my account?

Use a strong password, turn on two-step verification in Settings › Privacy & security, keep your recovery codes safe and never share sign-in codes or your wallet PIN with anyone.
