How to Turn Off Read Receipts (Yapie, WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal)

Read receipts are useful, but they also create pressure to answer immediately. Most messengers let you turn them off.

#Yapie

1. Open **Settings › Privacy & security**. 2. Switch off **Read receipts**. 3. Optional: switch off **Typing indicator** so people don't see "typing…".

What changes: people see two grey ticks (delivered) instead of two green ticks (read) on messages you've read. It works both ways — you won't see their read status in one-to-one chats.

#WhatsApp

**Settings › Privacy › Read receipts** → off. Read receipts are always sent in groups.

#Signal

**Settings › Privacy › Read receipts** → off. Typing indicators are a separate switch.

#Telegram

Telegram doesn't let you hide read status in private chats; you can hide **last seen** and the time you read messages in **Settings › Privacy and Security**.

#Other ways to read without "reading"

- **Reply-free reading from notifications**: reading a notification preview doesn't mark the chat as read. - **Hide last seen** so people don't know when you were online: **Settings › Privacy & security › Last seen & online** in Yapie.

#When to keep receipts on

For work chats, read receipts help a team know a message was seen. You might keep them on in Yapie Work and use quiet hours in **Settings › Notifications & sounds** to protect your evenings instead.

#Frequently asked questions

Can people tell I turned off read receipts?

They'll notice your messages stay at grey ticks after you've replied, but there's no explicit notification.

Do read receipts work in groups if I turn them off?

In Yapie, turning them off stops others seeing that you read their one-to-one messages. Group read status reflects members who share receipts.

Can I see others' read receipts if mine are off?

Not in one-to-one chats. It's reciprocal, so the setting is fair for everyone.
