Read Receipts Explained: Grey Ticks, Blue Ticks and Green Ticks

Those little ticks next to your messages carry a lot of meaning — and cause a lot of "why didn't you reply?" moments. Here's exactly what they mean.

#The three stages

🕓 Clock	Still sending (no connection yet)
✓ One grey tick	Sent — the server has your message
✓✓ Two grey ticks	Delivered — it reached their phone or computer
✓✓ Two coloured ticks	Read — they opened the chat

#Why Yapie uses green for "read"

WhatsApp uses blue for read. Yapie uses green, which stands out more clearly from grey on both light and dark backgrounds, so you can tell "delivered" from "read" at a glance. Grey ticks always mean "not read yet".

#Read receipts in groups

In a group, double ticks turn green once everyone has read the message. To see exactly who read it and who only received it, long-press your message and choose Info — you'll see Read by and Delivered to lists.

#Why you might only see grey ticks

• The person turned read receipts off. In Yapie, turning them off also means you don't see theirs in one-to-one chats — it's fair both ways.
• They read the message from a notification without opening the chat.
• Their phone is off or has no connection (one tick only).
• You're blocked (messages may stay at one tick).
