How to Send Photos and Videos Without Losing Quality

Messengers shrink your photos and videos. Here's why, how to send them in full HD or original quality, and how Yapie lets you choose HD, original or data-saver for every send.

You took a great photo, sent it to the family group, and it arrived blurry. Compression is to blame.

Why apps compress media

- **Speed:** smaller files send faster on slow connections. - **Data:** less mobile data for sender and receiver. - **Storage:** less space on phones and servers.

The problem is when compression is forced and you can't opt out.

Sending in high quality with Yapie

When you attach photos, Yapie lets you choose the quality:
OptionBest for
HD (recommended)Sharp photos at a sensible size
Original filePrints, editing, professional work — no compression at all
Data saverSlow or expensive mobile data

Set a default in Settings › Data & storage, and change it per send.

Send as a file for zero changes

Attach media as a **file** to send the exact original — metadata and all. Yapie supports files up to **4 GB**. See [sending big files](/blog/send-files-up-to-4gb).

Videos

Long videos are large. If the recipient is on mobile data, consider HD rather than original. On Wi-Fi, original keeps every detail.

Receiving without eating your data

Control what downloads automatically in **Settings › Data & storage** — for example, photos on mobile data but videos only on Wi-Fi. More in [saving mobile data](/blog/save-mobile-data-media-auto-download).

Other apps

- **WhatsApp:** HD option for photos and videos; send as a document for originals. - **Telegram:** send as a file for originals. - **Signal:** media quality setting (Standard/High).
