How to Import WhatsApp Chats Into Yapie (Step by Step)

Switching apps doesn't mean leaving your history behind. Yapie can import WhatsApp chat exports, keeping each message's original date and author.

#Step 1 — Export the chat from WhatsApp

Android

1. Open the chat or group in WhatsApp. 2. Tap **⋮ › More › Export chat**. 3. Choose **Without media** (smaller and faster). 4. Save the `.txt` file to your phone (Files, Downloads or Drive).

iPhone

1. Open the chat and tap the contact or group name. 2. Scroll down and tap **Export Chat › Without Media**. 3. Save to Files.

#Step 2 — Import into Yapie

1. In Yapie, open **Settings › Backup, import & export**. 2. Under **Import chats from other apps**, choose where to import: **A new chat** or an existing chat. 3. Tap **WhatsApp .txt** and select the exported file. 4. Enter **your name exactly as it appears in the export**, so your messages are marked as yours. 5. Wait a moment — Yapie shows how many messages were imported and opens the chat.

#What gets imported

- ✅ Every text message with its **original date and time**. - ✅ The **author's name** on each message, plus a small "WhatsApp" tag. - ✅ Multi-line messages. - ❌ Media isn't included in a "without media" export. Re-send important photos as files if you need them.

Imports of up to 100,000 messages per file are supported.

- **Groups:** import into a new Yapie group, then invite the members. - **Date formats:** Yapie recognises the common WhatsApp formats for both day-first and month-first dates, with 12- and 24-hour times. - **Keep the .txt file** as an extra backup.

#After importing

Your imported history is stored on the server like any other chat, protected by the recovery vault. Invite the people from that chat to Yapie so the conversation can continue there.

Can I import WhatsApp chats with photos?

Yapie imports the text of the export. Media from a "with media" export isn't attached automatically; send important files separately.
