A Simple Leave Request Process Your Team Will Actually Follow
A clear leave policy plus a two-step approval workflow — how employees request leave, how managers approve, and how HR keeps records — using Yapie Work.
Leave requests shouldn't need a form, a signature and three reminders.
Step 1: A one-page leave policy
- Leave types: annual, sick, casual, unpaid. - Notice: e.g. 3 days for planned leave; same-day for sickness. - Who approves: line manager, then HR. - Documentation: e.g. medical certificate for more than 2 sick days.Step 2: Create the workflow
In **Work › Organisation › Workflows**, create **Leave** with steps: 1. **Line manager** 2. **HR**Step 3: Employees request leave
1. **Work › Approvals › New request › Leave**. 2. Enter dates, type and reason; attach a certificate if needed. 3. Submit — the manager is notified.Step 4: Approve
The manager taps **Approve** or **Return** with a comment ("Can you shift by a day?"). HR does the final approval. The employee is notified at each step.Step 5: Records
- **Status by person** shows exactly where each request is. - Approved leave is **locked**; changes by admins appear in the **audit log**. - Combine with **attendance** so approved leave days aren't marked absent in your review.Tips
- Ask people to request leave **before** booking travel. - Keep a shared calendar or channel for **who's off this week**. - Review leave balances monthly.Frequently asked questions
