Recovery codes are your spare key.

What they are

A short list of **one-time codes** shown when you sign up. Each code can reset your password once, even if you've lost access to your email or phone.

When to use one

- You forgot your password and email/SMS reset isn't available. - You lost the phone number or email on the account.

How to use a recovery code in Yapie

1. On the sign-in screen, choose to **recover your account**. 2. Enter your **username**, one **recovery code** and a **new password**. 3. You're signed in. That code is now used up.

Where to keep them

- ✅ A **password manager** (Bitwarden, 1Password, iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager). - ✅ **Printed** and kept somewhere safe at home. - ✅ A note in an **encrypted** storage app. - ❌ A screenshot in your gallery that anyone with your phone can open. - ❌ A chat with a friend. - ❌ An unencrypted note on a shared computer.

Running low?

When you've used several, generate new ones from your account settings and replace the old list.

Recovery codes and two-step verification

Recovery codes are a deliberate backup path. Keep them as private as your password — anyone with a code and your username could reset your account.
